Portrait photography is always more natural in an environment where the subject feels comfortable. I particularly find this when photographing new babies. The parents are relaxed that everything is to hand and smells and sounds are familiar to the newborn. This photograph was taken recently in Hale, Cheshire. The baby was 9 days old and being kissed gently by his big sisters on the floor of their living room. He had just had a long feed whilst I had photographed his sisters playing together, so he was content and relaxed. I have photographed this family three times in the last two years. I photographed the little girl on the right when she was newborn. It feels very special to witness a family growing.
